Rather ironic that Anet messages you every hour and after 2 hours of play insists you take a break... then they proceed to have events that require you on for hours in order to participate...
ugg - I like to do, the other holiday stuff while I can - not grind for my mask. 250 is alot of orbs, even if they give them out like candy. and if its only on the last day (which is not a holiday)... sigh. Except for the tengu event, you didnt have to grind for the items, just show up. Honestly there should be a collector for items, or just give us the stuff - not both.
I do not know what to expect. I beleive 250 orbs is a lot. I took my lunch break and for 30 minutes was able to get 11 orbs. If that is average I could grind out 250 orbs in about 12 hours I could have 250 ords. Wow imagine the message A.net will be sending. "Cease and disease game play" or "go to bed" another thing for most of America the envent does not start till 2 am tomorrow.
The only complant I have will have to wait till July 5 to see what A.Net is doing. As far as I know they still have not answered what has happen to Gwenn. Poor Gwenn I knew well. *cough*cough* as a friend, only. :P
why is evryone complaining about 250? you never complained at 250 naga fangs or at farming candy canes but 250 jade orbs!? oh no thats just different for some reason
Assuming that the two new quests don't give you orbs as a reward, someone made a good point above about how people are going to be spending their time farming for the orbs instead of enjoying the events that lead up to the last day.
And for the person above who asked about the long weekend, for the States this is our Indepence Day weekend. Most people will be off Saturday through Tuesday night. Most people will be traveling and not have access to GW during this time (as I will not). I had planned to do some farming today and tomorrow before leaving and cash them in for the mask from a collector (a la Wintersday) and not deal with a potentially risky timetable on the last day of the event. They have introduced an element of inconvience for many when they had a good system set up in the past to accomodate anyone.

Because with the naga fangs you got most of them through relatively quick quest rewards. In an hour you could have all you needed. Candy canes had an immediate trade in and were useful, even ifyou had some left over after the event and could be used as items.
From what we have seen so far, you must grind to get each and every orb from a drop, which means many more hours for something that will be useless after the event.
I thought I read somewhere that the trader will be available 2 or 3 days after the conclusion of the event? And who is saying that tomorrow we will not have the quests like we did for the Naga Fangs?

Excellent description. Unfortunately, July 5th is NOT a holiday for 99.9% of the working world out there (and is in the middle of a workweek - yuck), so it looks like I'm gonna only be able to get 1-2 hats for my guys...
I don't think July 5th is even a holiday for americans. I mean I thought they celebrated the 4th of July.... well..... on the 4th of July.

That would be nice. I still have 14 naga fangs sitting in my storage Having a collector after the event would have fixed that. Think I'll just toss em.
THE EVENT HASNT STARTED YET It starts TOMMOROW. -_o
These drops are just a "preview". Im pretty sure there will be new quests that will allow you to get the majority of your jade orbs easily. Just like the Tengu event.
In the last events, throughout the period of days in the event, 3 hourly the mask collector would come to present the mask doing so everyday throughout the event.
But the proposed as is to be understood correctly means that this mask exchange will only take place at the end of the event on the last day only and not on other days within the event which is very inconsiderate and retarted to say the least which is the nature of the complaint.
I hope i have made myself clear.
regards.
Yes you have. Unfortunately you are wrong. The santa hat, antlers, and the pumpkin hat were all available only one single day, the last of their respective events. Not on the other days of the event.
Other items - eggnog, snowman summoners, candy canes etc - were available throughout the event, from permanent collectors, but not the hats. Have I made myself clear?
And yes it was inconsiderate and retarded, and I said so, both after Halloween and after Wintersday. ANet has listened to complaints insofar they at least tell us there are hats coming this time, and that there will be surprises towards the end, neither of which they did the previous events. During the Wintersday event, for instance, it would have been real helpful to know that Grenth and Dwayna would appear every three hours on the last day and hand out hats, and that all you had to do to get them was to be logged in.

As you will read in The Scribe, which hits newscroll stands in a couple of hours, the collectors who will make it possible for you to acquire a dragon mask will be present in Cantha for one week after the event ends.
Do not despair! You have been given the opportunity to start acquiring the Jade Wind Orbs early (as of last night). They will be available through Midnight Pacific on July 4th (7:00 GMT July 5th). And you have a full week to redeem the orbs for the mask.
Have fun, now, and see you in Cantha!

From what I'm reading, I won't be participating in orb/hat thing at all. I'm no farmer, nor am I rich enough to buy enough orbs (OK, maybe I have enough, but there's no way I'm going to waste that much money on a hat). Farming for orbs isn't fun and I'm not going to go many hours out of my way for a prize that's not nearly worth it. In fact, I'm not sure what Anet is trying to do by requiring 250 orbs and having them only availible on one day. They are adding in grind and excluding the casual players. No doubt I will do the free events (pvp arenas) but I'm not going to participate in any item based parts.
EDIT: Thanks Gaile, invalidates much of my post.

Wow we can still get them up to a week after the event ends? That is much MUCH better news than we were all probably hoping for. Thanks Gaile. I guess now everybody can be happy and I don't have to stress out at work itching to speed home to catch the next 3 hour window
Changing the mask distributor to a 24/7 collector instead is by far the best change for these events. For all the previous events, you had people scrambling to satisfy all the requirements to get a mask and then sit in a designated zone for a couple hours waiting for the distributor to show up. And then once they had the mask in their inventory, they immediately logged off, quickly logged back in with a different character, and followed the mad scramble jumping to district 300 hoping to catch a slightly lagged version of the event and gain a 2nd (or in some cases) a 3rd mask in one sitting. Doing it this way meant most people missed the end festivities (grenth showed his love by killing everyone ^^). So as far as event changes go, this is by far the best one as now people can actually relax and enjoy every aspect of the event. GG Anet.
I'm actually quite excited about the EVENT itself now that I don't have to worry about whether all my characters will get masks or not. Urm really the only thing that could possibly ruin this now is if they didn't give us orbs for special quest rewards and made us farm them all 1 at a time ...... crossin me fingers here...
